Hyaluronic Acid & Aging
11/27/2024

Did you know there are two types of aging?

  • Intrinsic Aging: A natural, time-dependent process influenced by hormonal changes.
  • Extrinsic Aging: Caused by external factors, primarily UV radiation.

When it comes to intrinsic aging, hyaluronic acid (HA) plays a big role. HA is a major component of the extracellular matrix (i.e, our epidermis or skin), providing hydration and structural support. As we age, HA levels decline, leading to decreased skin moisture and elasticity.

So, what can we do?

Understanding the role of HA in skin aging is crucial for developing effective anti-aging strategies. By targeting HA synthesis, degradation, and receptor interactions, scientists may be able to develop novel treatments to combat the signs of aging and maintain youthful, healthy skin. Per the study, "Youthful skin retains its turgor, resilience and pliability, among others, due to its high content of water. Daily external injury, in addition to the normal process of aging, causes loss of moisture. The key molecule involved in skin moisture is hyaluronic acid (HA) that has unique capacity in retaining water."

This is one of the reasons MoreWOW, with it's micro HLA makes such a good moisturizer - it helps give the skin back the HA that is lost, helping you get that dewy glow!
