Dealing with GSM
12/18/2024

This study explored the treatment of genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM). It discusses the effectiveness and harms of vaginal estrogen, non-estrogen hormone therapies, and vaginal moisturizers for treatment of GSM symptoms.

Let's take a look!

Here's a summary of the key findings:

  • Vaginal estrogen (like Silky Peach!), vaginal DHEA, oral ospemifene, and vaginal moisturizers may improve some GSM symptoms in the short term.
  • Vaginal testosterone, systemic DHEA, vaginal oxytocin, and oral raloxifene or bazedoxifene may provide no benefit or had uncertain effects.

Ospemifene is a prescription medication used to treat moderate to severe vaginal dryness and painful intercourse (dyspareunia) caused by menopause. It's a selective estrogen receptor modulator that works similarly to natural estrogen in the body.

This research review backs up additional clinical findings that show vaginal estrogens are an effective way to treat GSM issues (such as vaginal atrophy, UTI's, incontinence, and more).
