Hormone Reports Case Study 1
09/30/2024

Our case studies explore a team members' hormone report, as Dr. Robyn walks them through the report results, the symptomatology, possible options, and much more. These case studies are designed to show you the saliva testing results in more depth, and give you a better understanding of what different results mean.

You can watch the YouTube Video of the consult here.

About the Client

In our first case study, the client is a 36-year-old who is pre-menopausal. She is still menstruating regularly, and has one biological child. She uses no hormone supplementation, and no hormonal birth control. The client was not using any supplements, i.e., vitamins. Additionally, as it is of note, the client in this case has a BMI on the lower end (18.5) and low body fat percentage.

Other relevant info for this case study: The client exercises 8+ hours per week, a combination of cardio, strength, and pickleball. She has one biological child, but is in a family with two additional children. She works for us (yay!) but also is completing school to become a clinical mental health counselor. She typically works 30-50 hours a week.

The Symptoms

The client in this case study complained mainly of stress and fatigue related symptoms. The clients main complaints were: stress, anxiety, fatigue, energy slumps, trouble falling asleep at night, mood swings, and some mild joint aches and pains. The client had no hormone related complaints, i.e., breast pain, vaginal dryness, period irregularities.

The Results

In this first image, we can see the cortisol results, as well as DHEA.

The green diamond shows results that are 'within range', and to the left we can see the yellow diamond showing those results that are sub optimal or low. To the right, we can see the optimal range.

The client, as Dr. Robyn notes, has healthy cortisol levels in the morning, but these quickly plummet by noon, and subsequently remain below 'within range' until night time, when cortisol is supposed to be lower. The hormone comments to the right indicate that this client is in the early stages of adrenal dysfunction, or as it is more commonly known, 'adrenal fatigue'. Adrenal fatigue is a condition where the adrenal glands, which produce stress hormones like cortisol, become overworked and unable to keep up with the body's demands. This can lead to a variety of symptoms, including fatigue, weakness, difficulty concentrating, and hormonal imbalances.

Hormone Results

In the hormone results, we can see that several areas are low: estriol, progesterone, and the estrogen, and estrogen/progesterone ratios. Dr. Robyn notes that this could be caused by a variety of factors, including low body weight, and the impact exercise and diet is having on the client.

It is important to note that both the EQ and the Pg/E2 ratios are important for women in terms of longterm health and longevity; given the age of the client, supplementation with estriol and progesterone at a low amount might be an option, as well as herbal supplementation, and lifestyle changes.

What Next?

If you watch the recording, you can see that Dr. Robyn really offers great insight into what is happening with the client, but also, what steps the client can take to help reduce problematic symptoms - in this case fatigue and sleep issues. She also explains why things are happening and the intersection between hormones and lifestyle factors.

Our saliva hormone testing offers a fantastic way to see where your hormone levels are, and combined with a hormone report consultation with one of our amazing health coaches - all of whom are trained by Dr. Robyn, can give you the insight and support you need for your menopause journey.
